Invite a friend to an event
Invite eligible contacts from an event page and verify the invitation record without confusing it with registration.
Send an event invitation to an eligible contact and verify it under your own previous invitations.
Before you begin
You must be an eligible signed-in user, the event must not be over, and its Allow users to send invitations? setting must admit you. Depending on the organizer’s choice, that can mean any signed-in user, an Accepted attendee, or an Accepted attendee who was granted invitation rights.
Use only contact details you are permitted to use. Sending the form stores invitation records and attempts email delivery; it does not accept the invitee’s registration.
1. Open the invitation panel
- Open the event details page.
- Under Your registration, select Invite a friend.
- Confirm the slide-over heading is Invite a friend and it contains the Invite a friend and Previous invitations tabs.
If the action is absent, review the invitation policy and your registration state. Opening /{organization-slug}/{event-slug}/invite directly does not bypass those checks.
2. Add invitees
- Under Invitee 1, enter First name, Last name, and Email.
- Select Add for another person. The panel lets you queue up to 10 invitees in one submission.
- Use Remove invitee to remove a row you do not intend to send.
- Review Subject and Message.
Across the default subject and message, bracketed values can insert [First name], [Last name], [Event title], [Event date], [Event address], [Inviter first name], and [Inviter last name]. [Event URL] is also available in Message. Preserve a bracketed value when you want the corresponding event or person value inserted for each recipient.
3. Send and verify
- Recheck every email address and the final message.
- Select Send invitation(s) once.
- Wait for Invitations were successfully sent.
- Open Previous invitations.
- Verify the person, Status, and Invite sent date.
The success message confirms that the invitation rows were stored and delivery was attempted. It does not prove mailbox receipt.
Previous invitations contains only invitations sent by the current user for this event. A new record shows Invited until it is linked to the invitee’s event attendance; it then reflects that attendance state.
Success check
The success message appears, and Previous invitations contains one row for each intended recipient. Those durable rows are the success boundary. After delivery, the invitee can open the event link and complete the separate registration journey.
Troubleshooting
- If Invite a friend is missing, confirm the event policy and whether you need Accepted or manually granted status.
- A signed-out direct link to the invite panel redirects to sign-in. A signed-in but ineligible user returns to event details.
- You have already invited this person to the event. means your user has already invited that email to the same event. Check Previous invitations instead of resending.
- Invalid or incomplete names and email addresses show inline field errors. Correct those rows before submitting again.
- Please check the forms for errors before submitting. is the fallback when an otherwise valid multi-invite submission could not be stored. Keep the panel open and inspect every row before retrying.
- This event is already over. You can no longer invite friends to join. means the exact-date event has passed its end time.
- Do not retry after the success message merely because email delivery is delayed or absent. The notifier result does not change the success flash; first confirm the durable row under Previous invitations.
